Loft Cleaning Habits That Help Keep Rollers Healthier

Loft care

A clean loft does not need to be complicated. It needs to be regular. Roller pigeons do better when the loft is dry, the air moves, and droppings do not pile up where birds rest and feed.

Keep perches and floors on a rhythm

Perches collect more than people notice. A quick scrape on a schedule can prevent buildup and make it easier to spot changes in droppings or bird condition.

Floors should stay dry whenever possible. Moisture creates more trouble than plain dust or feathers.

Watch corners and nest areas

Corners, nest boxes, and low-traffic areas can hide problems. A fast visual check helps catch damp bedding, spilled feed, or places where mites and pests might get comfortable.

Cleaning is also inspection. You learn the loft by looking at it often.

Do not forget airflow

Ventilation is part of cleanliness. A loft can look tidy and still feel stale if air is not moving. Good airflow helps keep birds comfortable and reduces odor.

The best loft habits are the ones a keeper can actually maintain every week.

Northland Rollers will keep sharing practical loft care notes for healthy roller pigeons and smoother training.

About Brooks

I’ve been around pigeons my entire life.  My dad learned from the old timers in Germany as a kid and won his first homing pigeon race at the age of 15.  He immigrated to USA at age 20.  He introduced me to all the workings of his loft when I was just 6 yrs old.  I’ve been hooked ever since.  Pigeons are a part of my identity.
