A common-sense weekly checklist for roller pigeon loft health, including water, feed, droppings, perches, pests, and bird behavior. I wanted to write this in a simple, practical way because pigeon care is usually about the everyday details more than one big secret.
Water and feed
Start with the basics. Is the water clean? Are the containers slimy? Is feed dry and protected?
I like to look at how birds come to feed too. Birds that suddenly hang back, act dull, or avoid the group may be telling you something.
A weekly check does not replace daily care, but it gives you a chance to slow down and look with fresh eyes.
Droppings and floor condition
Droppings tell a story. They change with feed, weather, stress, and health.
Wet spots, heavy smell, or buildup under perches should be handled before they become part of the environment.
If the floor is damp, find out why. Dampness invites trouble.
Perches, doors, and safety
Check perches, latches, wire, and corners. A loose perch or sharp edge can cause injuries.
Predator pressure can show up as nervous birds, feathers near the wire, or birds refusing to settle.
Safety checks are boring until the day they save you from a real problem.
Look at the birds
Stand in the loft for a few minutes and just watch. Who is bright? Who is puffed up? Who is breathing oddly?
Healthy rollers have life in them. They move, watch, preen, and respond.
This is where knowing your own birds matters. The better you know normal, the faster you notice not normal.
As always, the best results come from watching the birds in front of you. Clean water, good feed, steady handling, and common sense will teach you more than any shortcut ever will.
